SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026 – 2536 Vacancies, Apply Online till 7 October

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) Recruitment 2026 notification for 2536 vacancies of Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)/Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) and Data Entry Operator (DEO) in various central government ministries and departments. Candidates who have passed Class 12 can apply online from 7 September 2026 to 7 October 2026. This is one of the most popular SSC exams for 12th pass candidates seeking a central government job.

SSC CHSL 2026 Overview

SSC CHSL recruits candidates for LDC/JSA and DEO posts across various ministries, departments and organisations of the Government of India. It is conducted every year and attracts lakhs of applicants due to the relatively simple eligibility criteria and attractive pay scale.

Vacancy Details

A total of 2536 Group C posts are available this year for LDC/JSA and DEO positions. The detailed, department-wise and category-wise vacancy breakup will be updated by SSC closer to the exam.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit: Candidates must be between 18 and 27 years of age as on 1 August 2026. Age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST, OBC, PwBD and other reserved categories as per government rules.

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Class 12th (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognised board. For certain DEO/Grade A posts, candidates must have studied Mathematics in Class 12th.

Application Fee

The application fee is Rs. 100 for General/OBC male candidates. Women candidates and those belonging to SC, ST, EWS and PwBD categories are exempted from paying the application fee.

Exam Pattern

SSC CHSL 2026 Tier 1 will be a Computer-Based Test of 200 marks covering English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, General Knowledge and General Awareness, with sectional time limits and 0.5 negative marking per wrong answer. The exam is tentatively scheduled for December 2026.
